A visit to your neighborhood gardening center can be exciting and overwhelming all at one time. There are many beautiful plants, trees, and shrubs from which to choose. Here are the things you need to keep an eye out for if you’re shopping for plants to be sure you’re bringing home plants.

There are two places that you would like to look at when deciding a plant’s relative health. The first is this plant’s foliage. You want the foliage to be bushy and thick instead of thinned out and sparse. The leaves should all be a vibrant green unless the plant species have leaves of different colors. Plants that appear thin have been cared for very well, and you’ll have a hard time once you take them reviving them.

A weak root system will starve the plant of the nutrients it requires. Leaves that look thin and bleached out indicate that a plant has a spider mite issue. If the edges of the leaves are irregular, insects have been munching away on the plant. Scars and marks on the base of the leaves also show that the plant has an insect issue. Brown leaves that are wilted rather than brittle or leaves that have color spots generally signify that the plant has some disease, a fungal infection. It states that the garden center hasn’t been handling the plants well if many stalks are broken from a plant. It could be time to begin shopping somewhere else if you see lots of plants like this in the garden center.
